Jamuguri incident

Time and again, we express our concern and anguish over the unabated infiltration of Bangladeshi people into Assam through the porous border with Bangladesh. These illegal infiltrators after receiving patronage of certain political parties get emboldened and keep on grabbing government land illegally. The matter has come to such a pass that these illegal people start ignoring notice from government to vacate the land grabbed by them. In the recent incident at Jamuguri the infiltrators attacked and severely injured the 12-member team including the O/C of Jamuguri Police Station along with some indigenous youths of the locality. These sort of unsavoury incidents are sure to recur as the land grabbers are tacitly blessed by some political parties. They are so emboldened by certain political leaders that they never hesitate to throw open challenge to the government machinery. Our government too always wakes up late. Meanwhile, it is reported in the print media that a good chunk of xatra land have been freed from the land grabbers. But at Jamuguri the land grabbers had the audacity to attack a police contingent headed by Jamuguri O/C. This incident should be an eye-opener to the indigenous people in whose vicinity such land grabbing acts goes on. Simultaneously, the political force pampering such land grabbers should be identified.
