La mano de Dios!

Wazed Hussein, a young man from Sivasagar, has put the name of Assam in international headlines, of course for a wrong reason. His is a different kind of "hand of god" story which has earned him international attention. He has been arrested for allegedly stealing an expensive luxury watch that belonged to late legendary football player Diego Maradona. The Assam Police have arrested Wazid Hussein from his Sivasagar residence based on inputs from the Dubai Police. While the Assam Police must be congratulated for having arrested Assam's newest "international face", it is rather interesting how this lad from Sivasagar had landed up at Maradona's Dubai residence and had found a job there. That Wazed is a jewel of a kind has been proven by the fact that the police have not only recovered Maradona's lost watch from his possession but have recovered a few more items belonging to Maradona from his house. These include items such as a jacket, a few T-shirts, track pants, toy doll, squash racquet, a few i-pads, lighters, etc, all belonging to the football legend. From where and from here Wazed had started his stealing career is not immediately known. But, the Assam Police can probably engage a good author to write a book on Wazed "rags-to-riches" story, which is sure to become a best-seller and sell like hot cakes in the ensuing book fair slated to be held in Guwahati towards the end of this month. The book can be titled something like "Hand of God, Part 2" so that it gets related to the original version of "La mano de Dios" - a phrase used by Argentine footballer Diego Maradona to describe a goal which he scored during Argentina versus England quarterfinals match of the FIFA World Cup 1986 tournament. It will be not only interesting to find out from whom Wazed had learnt the art of stealing, and then specialized in VVIP stealing. It will also be important to find out whether he had watched "Haath ki safai", a 1976 Prakash Mehra film written by Salim-Javed and starring Vinod Khanna, Randhir Kapoor and Hema Malini among others. He must have also watched the Ajay Kashyap film "Smuggler" (1996) starring Dharmendra and Amrish Puri, as well as Brij Sardana's "Victoria No 203" starring Ashok Kumar, Navin Nischol, Pran and Saira Banu. But then, the Assam Police can take credit for apprehending him without having to fire a shot on his legs, and bring out a sequel to the new book with a title something like "Hand of cops!
