Closure of Dibrugarh Doordarshan Kendra

We are appalled to learn from newspaper reports that as per order of the competent authority concerned, the Dibrugarh Doordarshan Kendra stopped telecasting with effect from July 22. Accordingly there was no telecasting of Kendra's own programme along with All India programmes like news of Doordarshan 1 and Doordarshan. Now uncertainty looms large over the Doordarshan Kendra about whether or not it would at all see the end of the tunnel. A source transpires that the Central Government is arranging to get the programmes of Dibrugarh and Silchar Doordarshan telecast through a new Satellite Doordarshan Kendra (D.D. Assam). Timing of telecasting of the programmes prepared by Dibrugarh and Silchar would be ascertained by D.D. Assam. At a time when the people of Assam become complacent about the good deeds done by the State Government led by BJP's Sarbananda Sonowal, we are afraid if the said two Doordarshan Kendras (Dibrugarh and Silchar) happen to face closure (Courtesy Union government led by Narendra Modi) this would leave a black spot, besides showing the BJP stalwarts of Assam in poor light.

Provide free education for COVID victims' children

The decision of providing free of cost education to COVID deceased's daughters and sons for two academic sessions seems to be a good initiative of a university in Orissa. It is challenging for a household who lost its member in this pandemic and continuing higher education of their children is also a giant question. The governments and private institutions of the country should bring this type of initiative and help the pandemic-hit families to sustain children's education.

An appeal

I had the privilege and opportunity to listen to the 67th edition of monthly 'Mann ki Baat', where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on various issues. In that programme he talks with people from different walks of life, irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, age, etc. It was a pleasure experience to see commoners talking their heart out with the Prime Minister Modi on some very trivial issues concerning the country. When voices of the masses are heard directly by the person concerned occupying the highest seat of democracy it augurs well for the nation. At the same breathe, I appeal to the opposition, especially the Congress and Leftists to rise up to the occasion and behave as true Indians. Constructive criticism, practical and noble suggestions are always welcome. The current practice of opposing anything for the sake of opposing should be abolished. I can only hope that my appeal doesn't fall into their deaf ears. For India to rise and shine constructive role of the government and opposition is equally important.

Rafale in IAF

The first five Rafale fighter jets purchased by India were set at Ambala airbase in northern India on Wednesday, July 29. 36 Rafale jets were ordered by India in September 2016. The delivery of the thirty six jets will be completed by 2022. The Indian Air Force is also procuring unknown numbers of HAMMER, a smart bomb that can attack static or moving targets at a range of 70 km. With the induction of the same IAF's combat capability will increase considerably and both China and Pakistan will have to think twice before they think of attacking India. The Rafale jets are built by Dassault Aviation, France. The 36 planes were bought by India from France at a cost of rupees fifty-nine thousand crore through an inter-government deal.

We wish to congratulate Indian Air Force on this auspicious day.

COVID patients

COVID patients are currently facing a two-pronged battle, one from the illness itself and the other from society in the form of discrimination. People should support them and treat them with a lot of care, assuring them that there is hope. We have to stick together to fight against this crisis.
