The show goes on

The last year's postponement of the Tokyo Olympics due to Covid-19 pandemic, the sports loving people were sceptical about the normal resuming of the sports events. Fortunately, the major sporting events have started to resume normally. The only sad part is that either the stadiums are empty or with 50% capacity. Hopefully in coming days we would be able to see major sporting events like Olympics, Euro Cup soccer, Grand slams tennis, cricket series with full attendance inside the stadium galleries.

It simply proves that come what may the show must go on.

Left high and dry

Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, along with his party members, went to meet Akhil Gogoi in the GMCH where he is undergoing treatment. After the meeting, Ajit Bhuyan addressed the media and said that the meeting was unfruitful as Akhil Gogoi considers the AIUDF as 'communal party' and also he doesn't want the Congress to come back to power. Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, who is trying to be a catalyst, is left high and dry. Even in the Congress and AIUDF-led alliance everything is not in order. Elections are knocking the door, but till now the two parties have not ironed out their differences.

Julie Bhuyan,

Gaurisagar.

An appeal

Through your esteemed daily I would request the banned ULFA to release Pranab Gogoi and Ram Kumar immediately on humanitarian ground. It's been a long time the duo been kept separately from their respective families. Please no more kidnapping and ransom business in Assam as past activities of the ULFA has pushed our state many thousand miles behind the rest. It is disheartening to see the ULFA again raising its ugly head. If anything untoward happens to Pranab Gogoi and Ram Kumar Assam, the Assamese would be shamed. The top leadership of the ULFA who lead lavish life in neighbouring Bangladesh is responsible for misguiding and killing of many young and energetic Asomiyas.

Clogged drains

The lackadaisical attitude of the authorities over the deteriorating condition of drains in the old localities of Guwahati is a serious issue. I would like to request the authorities concerned to clean the drains in the dry season, instead of in rainy season. The government should monitor it and take appropriate steps.

Putul Sarma,

Biswanath Charialli.
