Need for Moral Education

In recent times, in our country various heinous crimes have been on the rise. Innocent and easy-going females have become victims due to such crimes. There is no age limit, caste and creed when miscreants do such acts.

In recent times, various heinous crimes against woman have happened frequently in Assam as well, and many innocents have lost their lives in such incidents. In the Assam Assembly, some conscious members raised such issues during the last session.

The moral values of our people seem to be declining speedily. Moral education at the school level has become necessary. Besides, youths should be taught morality, humanity and other human ethics by social groups to become good citizens. Tough law is also the need of the hour. But we have also to think about precaution. We have to focus more on ethical and moral education. We have to begin with our kids.

Need for Tough Law

Crime against women cannot be tackled unless we have a tough law to prevent such crime. The conviction rate of the accused in such cases is very low. The law of the land moves at a snail's pace in this country. Many are talking of moral education. Perhaps it is theoretical. What is the guarantee that a man with a moral education background will not indulge in some sexual assault against women? The only answer is tough law — very, very tough law to come to the rescue of our women.

Heartburn for Few

The whirlwind tour of Northern European nations by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again proved his popularity abroad and also the respect he earns. To substantiate the point, let me quote that in the ongoing tour (till writing of this letter) Modi was the only leader amongst the host of other leaders from the various countries to be invited by England's Prime Minister to breakfast and dinner. It's a clear indication of the rise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a global leader.  The amount of respect and popularity gained by Modi might have caused heartburn for a few leaders back home, such as Rahul Gandhi and his company.

Hazare Ends Fast

     It is pleasing that Anna Hazare, social activist, called off his indefinite hunger strike on Thursday on the assurance of the government that his demands would be fulfilled as soon as possible within six months, and Anna agreed to it, with his version that, otherwise, he would go for fast from the same venue, Ramlila Maidan, Delhi.
