Letters to the Editor

Gogoi should Retire

3 February 2018 should be earmarked as one of the red-lettered days of Assam when Advantage Assam did materialize. Most of the leading industrialists of the tion mely Tata, Ambani, Adani, etc, to me a few, along with the delegates of the ASEAN countries, were in Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati. The very presence of tion's Prime Minister rendra Modi at the business summit added extra glow to the event which was totally unprecedented in the anls of Assam. Meanwhile, after the conclusion of the business conclave, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in his usual style did hold an press conference at his occupied residence in Koidhara. Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government, which ruled the State for three consecutive terms, severely criticized the present dispensation at Dispur for holding Advantage Assam. According to him, Advantage Assam will be a flop show. The chief architect of ruining Assam for 15 long years is behaving like a fish out of water after being thrown out of the Dispur secretariat. The ex- Chief Minister further added that during Congress rule they also held such summits without any success but the octogerian politician didn't do the necessary homework before organizing such summits. It is time for Tarun Gogoi to retire gracefully from politics, else the writings are very much clear in the wall.

No Politicians Please

India, with surplus human resources, fails to succeed in intertiol sporting are like Chi, USA, Russia, etc due to excessive politics. BCCI in its earlier avatar is an example where politicians like Sharad Pawar, Anurag Thakur and few of their supporters were calling the shots.

Thankfully, after the Supreme Court's intervention, such unwanted people with no cricketing background were shown the exit door. Now the same thing is happening with BAI (Badminton Association of India), where present Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is the president and sadly he will be controlling players like Prakash Padukone, Gopichand, Vimal Kumar, Madhumita Bisht and other eminent players.

Politicians cannot stay in any association without playing their own dirty game called politics. Our respected Health and Education Minister should immediately step down and set an example for other politicians and hand over the mettle to a more deserving person.

Himadri Chekanidhara,

Bihpuria, North Lakhimpur.
