Cricket: A Game of Glorious Uncertainty

Cricket is a game of glorious uncertainty, the popular saying goes. The way test cricket is being played now, this saying will soon be a relic unless correctives are put in place.

If rumours are to be believed, BCCI is already working on this formula. India will play the shorter format first when they tour the UK in July. Chances are the 50-over series will be played first in November-December when the Indians tour Australia. For the sake of test cricket, this is essential.

We don’t want Virat Kohli or Steve Smith to be ICC’s cricketer of the year with their respective teams losing on most occasions when playing away from home.

We want ICC’s cricketer and test cricketer of the year to lead teams that can justly lay claim to being ICC’s test team of the year as well. This can only be done if there is a change in the way world cricket is currently played and governed.

Police Deserves Kudos

Assam Police deserves all the kudos and appreciation for safely rescuing four-year-old Manvik Sura from the clutches of kidppers safely. As already stated by Commissioner of Police Hiren th, it was a well-coordited rescue operation by all the wings of the police department. The kidpping episode of the specially abled child was closely followed by the general public as social media sites — mely, Facebook and WhatsApp — were flooded. In such a situation anything could have happened to the child but the meticulously planned operation of the police department thwarted any eventuality. Truly, every policeman involved with the rescue operation deserves a big pat on their back.

Dr Ashim Chowdhury,
