Pathetic Roads

lbari is one of the important towns on the northern bank of Brahmaputra. It is an important business centre too as people from peripheral areas depend on the town for business and other day-to-day needs. But tragically the roads of the town have become pathetic. All the arterial roads of the town are in a deplorable condition, causing immense hardship to the people. The drains are not cleaned regularly. As a result, pedestrians find it difficult to walk . Of course I won’t put all the on the administration as denizens of the town are equally responsible. The roads are lacking in proper street lights, and one big tower tight installed by local MLA Ashok Sarma in the front of the ccivil hospital here is not working. The said light tower was iugurated with a lot of fanfare by the MLA by the end of 2016. It collapsed to darkness just after six months.

A lot was expected from the MLA but till now he has not lived up to the expectations. But I must admit rural roads are in good condition.

Bombshell on Akhil Gogoi

The KMSS leader and self-styled messiah of peasants Akhil Gogoi is under scanner. The recent bombshell was dropped on Akhil Gogoi’s head by RTI activist Dulal Bora, where the RTI activist disclosed unholy nexus of KMSS leader with the then blue eyed of Torun Gogoi’s cabinet Rakibul Hussain and amassing wealth through illegal means. The RTI activist's claim was substantiated with facts and figures. The orchid owned by Akhil Gogoi in Kaziranga tiol Park under Bokakhat circle is a direct pointer to their unholy alliance. The six crores worth property in famous Kaziranga area owned by the Akhil Gogoi is bound to raise few eyebrows. With the known source of income of Akhil Gogoi, it is virtually impossible to purchase such an orchid unless one has the blessings of a person like Rakibul Hussain. Further it has come to the notice of general people that a leftist office is functioning in that prime plot by Akhil Gogoi.

It has been seen in the past that a drop of a hat in the state is enough for Akhil Gogoi to hit the street and start agitation in his unique style. But to my utter dismay, when a senior Congress and ex-MLA Anil Raja bought severe corruption charges against the then Forest Minister Rakibul Hussain with concrete evidence, the self-proclaimed chaedxmpion of the downtrodden, Akhil Gogoi, maintained a stoic silence. Not a single word was uttered in relation to the close relationship between Akhil Gogoi and Rakibul Hussain, and within the coming days more skeletons would emerge from the cupboard of Akhil Gogoi. It is time to wait and watch.

Himadri Chekanidhara,

Bihpuria, North Lakhimpur.
