Say ‘No’ to Bill

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 is a blatant violation of the Assam Accord which clearly mentions the cut-off date as the midnight of March 24, 1971 for detection and deportation of all illegal immigrants from Assam regardless of religion. By citing religion persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh, the BJP is trying to impose the Bill on the whole of the country but the main victim will be Assam which has already faced massive influx from Bangladesh since the partition of the country. The indigenous people of Assam have already opposed the Bill tooth and nail, and there is no reason why the BJP leadership should not pay heed to the indigenous voice of the State except for vote-bank politics, this time the vote bank being Bangladeshi Hindus. We, the indigenous people of Assam, will not accept the Bill, and it is good that there are clear indications that if the Bill is forced upon us, the State will witness another spell of massive agitation and unrest that nobody wants.
