A bold Congress worker

Kudos to Sajjad Puwala, the Secretary of  Maharastra Pradesh Congress committee for questioning how Rahul Gandhi could be crowned as President of the Congress party by an interl election. Among the bunch of sycophants, at least one bold congress worker did raise his voice against the decision of the party high command to make Rahul Gandhi President, as if it was just a family affair. We all know that under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, the party could not regain any lost ground. Far from introspection, the party is now hell-bent on crowning the prince! What the Congress needs now is some pragmatic leaders. This, we feel, would be the only solution for making Congress a viable altertive to the ruling BJP. After all, democracy and dystic rule are two different sides of the pole. Winning election in one or two states, resorting to diplomacy and owing to anti-incumbency wave cannot be accepted as party's success after all.

Enough of mega events

A big 'Thank You' to all the officers of the district administration for their patience and support to the government in its decisions of hosting 'mega events' in Guwahati and helping to carry it out safely and successfully. I understand, you all have no other choice but to carry it out and discharge your duties as good, efficient 'government servants', but your offices are empty now, for ordiry citizens and people like us with myriad of problems and issues. Where do we go? Our issues for a safer Guwahati are piling up and we need you back in your respective offices.

I thank our Chief Minister, you have made us famous; you have inked Guwahati bright in India's map. Rest of India and even the world now know that we have too many star hotels, that we have the Brahmaputra with a good 'bali shor' in North Guwahati, that our coffers are overflowing with money to host mega events with big fat dinners and cultural events.

Yes Sir, it is important to showcase our cultural heritage and economic importance, but Guwahati, and it's immediate surroundings should not be the only place to host these functions at all times. Make 'Assam centric' decisions when it comes to these functions instead of 'Guwahati centric' only. Take Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Tezpur, Tinsukia, Kokrajhar etc districts also into consideration while organizing these events. Let the people of those places also enjoy and have their share of fun and woes.

I hope the three day Intertiol Tourism Mart 2017 (Dec 5-Dec7) at Vivanta by Taj shall mark the end of mega events in Guwahati.

Rashmi Sharma Pawe,

Guwahati.
