Women trafficking and harassment

Nowadays, more often than not, the news of women trafficking and harassment along with rape, killing and dowry death, in print as well as electronic media hit the headlines, making us feel that women are the weakest species and purchasable commodities for sex.

Every successive government, after coming to power, have paid little interest for women reservation and empowerment, although they allure women for the same at the time of election campaign.

If the women reservation bill had been passed, it would have been a positive step towards women empowerment.

Presently, women are excelling in every sphere. In today's civilized society, men should do away with the habit of considering women as a weaker sex.

Prime Minister rendra Modi's efforts to make "BetiĀ  Bachao, Beti Padhao" will remain a mere slogan if measures are not taken to put a stop on violence against women.

I would, therefore, like to request the Government to look into the matter seriously and take appropriate steps to check trafficking and crimes against women in the State.

Putul Sarma,

Bamgaon,

Biswath Chariali.
