'Romance, suspense and climax'

The three factors which make film/ drama successful are romance, suspense and climax. The actors/actresses are lauded or criticized based upon their performance in portraying the above mentioned factors. The recently concluded general conference of the AASU at Duliajan bears testimony to the above factors. We the commoners should laud the outgoing leaders of the union for playing the roles perfectly in regards to romance, suspense and climax before the TV cameras. Like his predecessor the newly elected general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah has already become very vocal. Immediately after assuming the post he launched a scathing attack on a senior Cabinet minister of the Sarbananda Sonowal government. Generally it was expected that the newly elected leader would disclose his roadmap or his agenda in regards to interest of the students before the public which is the main objective of the AASU. The students' union being a non-political union should behave like an apolitical body rather than a political one.

Returning back to the conference, the trio of Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Dipanko Kumar Nath and Samujjal Bhattacharjya kept everyone on tenderhooks till the last minute of the conference and even after 12 days of conclusion of the summit the 'Bhishma pitamah' of the AASU is still keeping masses on the edge of the seat as it is still not clear whether he will continue his stint as Advisor of the union. Truly the best way to hog the limelight.

Nightmarish experience

The very word nightmare might be a tiny word to describe the experience of one travelling by road from Guwahati to Dibrugarh. It is acceptable that there may be a few potholes here and there in the entire stretch but the stretch from Numaligarh to Dibrugarh is full of potholes enough to crank a car. The four-lane construction work which has been going on for years is progressing at a snail's pace for reasons best known to NH authorities. Thousands of people commute through that route and some on a regular basis due to professional or business works. The NH-37 is lifeline for people of districts like Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and if even after ten years if the road construction is not completed then questions are bound to rise. We hardly see any comments from our elected representatives on the deathtraps as we often see the powerful Cabinet minister along with the Chief Minister prefer to travel by air.

Now coming to two toll gates that are erected closely in Sonapur and Raha are nothing but daylight robbery. The strange part is the condition of the highway. The toll gate authorities are charging hefty amounts. The government should wake up or we will react to it rightly in the right moment.
