Conscience conscious?

The long-delayed annual conference of AASU was held in Duliajan in the month of November with massive media attention. The then AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi as promised by him earlier offered his resignation from the august post and the then president Dipanko Nath decided to continue in his post. The AASU's chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjee who had earlier in so many declarations has said that he would retire from the AASU sprang the biggest surprise of the conclave. While his junior stayed true to their words, the so-called 'Bhisma pitah' of AASU voiced to have a second thought on his earlier decision. He decided to consult his conscience for one more time and in this regard he took time from the AASU members. Finally during the oath-taking ceremony after consulting his conscience he decided to cling to his earlier post, a post with immense power without any accountability as evidenced by vandalism unleashed by the AASU during the last anti-CAA agitation in Guwahati. Neither he had to reply nor take any responsibility about the chaotic situations arising out of agitations. Indeed a very conscious person.

Dr. Ashim Chowdhury,

Guwahati.

Hat's off to the farmers

Hats off to the protesting farmers who are observing a peaceful agitation. Neither have they created any ruckus anywhere nor have they destroyed any government machinery or building. Their dogged determination in favour of genuine demands deserves appreciation. The government's steadfast attitude is working as a catalyst in fuelling the agitation. The government should be flexible and avoid lingering on by flexing meetings. Farmer unions are well aware of its tactics and cannot be fooled.

Chandan Kumar Nath,

Sorbhog.
