APCC president vacant

After the defeat APCC president post is vacant as Ripun Bora has resigned. The AICC is yet to nominate a new one. Meanwhile, Rupjyoti Kurmi has presented his candidature for the post. The Congress is already devoid of any matured leader, and appointing Rupjyoti Kurmi would be the final nail in the party's coffin. The leadership crisis is hurting the party post-2016. All the leaders are just busy fulfilling their interests. At present, none of the Congress leaders is concerned about the general well-being of the original inhabitants. They are still busy in minority appeasement which has hurt the party hard as evidenced by the results of the 2019 Parliamentary elections and 2021 Assembly elections. Had they not gone for an alliance with Badruddin Ajmal party their tally would have come been much lower. Luckily, all the Muslim voters, indigenous or the Bangladesh origins, all have voted in unison for the alliance. Congress is the oldest political party should shed the appeasement policy and work for the original inhabitants. Due to Torun Gogoi and his earlier companions who have helped the foreign infiltrators from Bangladesh attain Indian citizenship, the Congress managed to grab some seats in Muslim-dominated constituencies. In this digital era people, even the illiterate ones know the game plan of Congress. It is up to the Congress leadership to decide whether they want to be the protector of Bangladeshi infiltrators or the original sons of the soil. Choosing the right person who only thinks, speaks and fights for indigenous people in need of the hour for Congress high command. But will it be a reality because the so-called Gandhis themselves preach minority appeasement and are always concerned for Pakistan and China?

Xatra Mahaxabha's appeal

This letter has special reference to Axom Xatra Mahaxabha's (AXM) appeal to the State Government by the AXM secretary-general KK Mahanta to form a separate development council for the welfare of the xatras spread across the State. Xatra lands are under the occupation of people of doubtful nationalities in the State. The appeal of Xatra Mahasabha is very timely as it is seen in the past that the measures taken by the successive governments were not adequate. Who knows by tomorrow some newly-elected MLAs who have known special attachment to those illegal encroachers might sit in dharna/ andolan in protest against the Xatra Mahasabha's appeal. There are many such examples in this regard.

We earnestly hope that the new Government at Dispur will act with utmost sincerity to save the Xatra culture. We hope that the electorates of Sivasagar, once the capital of Asom, will lead from the front.

Overdose

Overdose of everything is harmful. The very same overdose of emotions is once again affecting the Asomiyas who are very vulnerable to emotion. We are very happy and relieved with the release of Ritul

Saikia from ULFA's custody. Instances are there in the past where many kidnapped persons were released by the ULFA after payment of huge ransom, most of them were the sons of the soil. I being a bona fide Asomiya was rather amused to see massive media coverage by the satellite TV channels which continued nonstop for two days. We have seen in the past when our Bravehearts who were martyred fighting the enemies were bought home in coffins wrapped in the Tricolour seldom gets that much attention from the TV channels.

It is a known fact that we are always swayed away by emotions starting from the Asom Andolan of the early 80s to recent anti-CAA agitations. For details, people can verify with people like Prafulla Mahanta, Ajit Bhuyan, Lurinjyoti Gogoi how they ticked the emotional chord of the people to fulfil their essay.

Best performance minister's award

Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma has shown maturity after taking over the charge of the new government by creating a new idea of guardian ministers instead of the previous idea of in-charge ministers. After spending more than twenty-five years in state politics, he has been able to acquire the knowledge of good governance. As a studious person, he has brought into his knowledge world politics and how a country or state can step forward for development. So, he tactfully distributed the development responsibility charge of the respective ministers' constituencies to other ministers. It may reduce the local minister's uneven interference to the administration and it may also create a competitive atmosphere amongst the ministers who can perform better. This will bring equality to the common development of the state. It will also reduce the misappropriation of development funds as the local MLAs or ministers will have the power to place a complaint against it before the Chief Minister. Now the Chief Minister will have to take strict vigil to the performance of his colleague ministers and after doing the correct assessment, the best performing minister should be awarded. This will give a morale boost to the awardee and will compel non-awardees to perform better in future.

Baba Ramdev

controversy

Baba Ramdev's remarks against allopathy saying that lakhs of patients have died due to these medicines is highly objectionable. The statement disrespects the corona warriors and hurts the sentiments of the country. The Government must take it seriously, and it is not enough that Dr Harsh Vardhan has asked Ramdev to withdraw his remarks against doctors and allopathy, rather he should have asked the authorities concerned to take appropriate action against Ramdev. If people reporting medical oxygen shortage can be booked, why not Ramdev? Now, when India is battling Covid related health issues, his anti-allopathy remarks are opportunistic and violative of the Epidemic Diseases Act.
