A great drama
A great political drama is going on in Assam between two super-secular political parties, namely Congress and AIUDF. The big guns of both parties are regularly firing salvos against each other before the print and electronic media, which has made it difficult to believe that Congress and AIUDF were allies in the last state elections. So far, AIUDF has not yet been invited to join I.N.D.I.A. at the behest of the Assam Congress under Bhupen Borah due to reasons best known to political pundits in the state. It is an open secret that in the last parliamentary election, Gaurav Gogoi and Pradyut Bordoloi got elected from Kaliabor and Nagaon, respectively, and in the assembly election of Batadrava and Mangaldoi seats, the Ajmal party contributed by not fielding candidates in those seats.
With the delimitation of assembly constituencies on the card, it seems very likely that both Congress and AIUDF are simply staging a drama to hoodwink the gullible Asomiya voters, as the 2024 election will be a life-or-death situation for the sons of the soil. Can any bona fide Asomiya ever trust either Badaruddin Ajmal or Bhupen Bora and co.? Do Akhil Gogoi, Gaurav Gogoi, or Lurinjyoti Gogoi have the answers? We are waiting with our fingers crossed.

All lies on floor
On August 8, it was observed that a section of media houses, along with the supporters of the Congress party in the state, were going overboard after Gaurav Gogoi’s speech on the floor of the parliament over the Manipur crisis. Though I must appreciate Gogoi for his fluency in Hindi and English, which he amply displayed while delivering the speech, sadly, whatever he said in his speech was full of lies. In fact, a few compared Gaurav Gogoi with the respected Late Hem Barua, who was an outstanding orator with excellent command of Assamese, Hindi, and English, and most importantly, he spoke the truth with facts and figures. It is too early to compare someone like Gogoi with the iconic Hem Barua. Young MPs like Gaurav Gogoi should go through Assam’s history in detail before speaking about his party’s contribution to Assam. From filling vacant agricultural lands in the state with immigrants from Bangladesh (courtesy Sadullah) to changing the demographic pattern of the state, Congress has done irreversible harm to Assam and its indigenous populace. It is an eyesore to see people from erstwhile East Pakistan becoming MPs and MLAs in constituencies like Baghbor, Chenga, Dhubri, Kharupetia, East and West Goalpara, Gauripur, and Dhing, to name a few. It is due to previous Congress governments that the people of erstwhile East Pakistan had the audacity to attack indigenous tribes like the Bodos and Kacharis in their homeland. It was Gogoi’s Congress that was responsible for killing 855 young bloods of the state and crippling thousands for life during the Assam Agitation. It is Gogoi’s favourite leader, Rakibul Hussain, who is responsible for the unabated poaching of Assam pride’s one-horn rhinoceros in Kaziranga. The list is endless, so it is better that Gaurav Gogoi does his homework first before raising his fingers at others.

Price rise
The skyrocketing prices of all the daily essential commodities are hurting the commoners badly. In fact, the price rise started its upward trend in the last six months. Many thought that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma would intervene (like he does in every matter in the state) and would give respite to the public, but things are starting to go from bad to worse. The minister concerned, Ranjeet Dass, is in deep slumber, and when media people ask him about the price rise, he gives some vague explanations, which further irritate the general masses. It has come to light that the reason for the unabated price hike is the ongoing ‘syndicate raj’ across the state, where many top guns of the government are involved. Though the BJP is in denial mode, people know everything. The money collected from the ‘syndicate raj’ goes to the party fund, the pockets of some top party leaders, and also to fund the schemes of the beneficiaries. If the price rise is not checked at the earliest, one would not be surprised if the BJP, led by Himanta Biswa Sarma, is voted out in the 2024 parliamentary polls in 14 constituencies.
In fact, leaders like Ranjeet Dass, Piyush Hazarika, Jayanta Malla Barua, and Bhabesh Kalita are yet to gauge the undercurrent prevailing in the people’s mind and soul.
