Clash of exam dates

The dates of state level Combined Entrance Examination (CEE), under Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) for admission into the Engineering Colleges of Assam and IISER Aptitude Test-2022 for BS-MS Programme in IISERs (Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research) and BITSAT-2022 Session I organized by Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani, a leading Institute of Higher Education and a deemed University under section 3 of the UGC Act offering degree programmes in Engineering, Sciences, Technology, Pharmacy, Management and Humanities, are clashing as both CEE and IISER Aptitude Tests are to commence on 3rd July 2022 and BITSAT Session I would be held on any day between July 2nd and July 9 and July 3 comes right in the middle of it. It will pose an immense problem for all the students willing to appear for these examinations. IISER APTITUDE TEST and BITSAT are National level Entrance Exams, and the CEE Aspirants of Assam will be deprived of giving a try for these two National level examinations which will be a great hindrance in one's career. On the other hand, another state-level entrance exam, the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM)-2022, has been postponed from July 3 to July 4 to avoid the clash. Why is it not happening in our state?

An aspirant,

Jorhat.

The sword of Damocles

In recent times, almost all the national TV channels and the print media except a handful owned by the dynasty of pseudo-Gandhis have very vividly and rightly exposed the massive loot and plunder committed by mother, son, son-in-law of a particular family for the last few decades. It is very amusing and shocking to know that all the three mentioned above are at present out on bail, although they are charged with some very serious financial scams. I, as a tax-paying law abiding citizen of the nation, have started doubting the impartiality of our judiciary system. It appears as if the sword of Damocles is hanging over their heads.

Power crisis

The power scenario in Assam has remained a dismal one as the State power department failed to build adequate domestic infrastructure in time for power generation in the State. The existing power generation in Assam meets only 10 per cent of total requirement, which is now around 2,000 mega watt. The power department has to buy the balance deficit from other power companies. In this present crisis, the new addition of the 70-MW of Amguri solar park is not enough to make a difference. However, the Chief Minister while inaugurating the new solar park on May 31 also revealed the State's plan to generate additional 1,000 MW of solar power within next five years. Presently Assam ranks at a dismal 27th position among 29 States and this wide power demand-generation gap in the State is worrisome. That is why through your esteemed daily, I appeal to the authorities concerned to expedite, on a mission mode, other power generation projects from conventional sources lingering at project site in the State to allay fears of the State's citizens.

Pannalal Dey,

Guwahati.
