Don't let 1983 repeat

Assam is going through the worst possible crisis when people of Bangladeshi origin are capturing our land, market and resources. The war-like scene in Sipajhar during an eviction is a pointer to it when thousands of illegal encroachers armed with bamboo sticks, machetes, spears went head-on with the police force. Many police personnel have been injured critically. This incident cannot be taken as one of the incidents. This incident gives a clear picture of the rise of radical forces in the state. In 1983, Assam witnessed severe protests against the expulsion of Bangladeshi foreigners which ultimately crashed due to many factors. Congress which was in power betrayed Asomiyas and Bengali-speaking Muslim people of Bangladesh were welcome into the state. This time around, we believe there is a different government at Dispur and they are serious with their business to free all the government lands from the illegal encroachers. In this regard, AASU (torch-bearer of Assam Agitation) should cooperate with the government and stand by the bumiputras. If all the indigenous tribes, AASU forgetting their political difference and unite with the government on the war against illegal encroachers, we shall win. AASU's next move in two three days will be watched by the public. Else, the 1983 scenario will be repeated.

Lacking security

The recent assassination of Delhi's most wanted gangster in the Delhi Court complex has proved the dearth of security of the judicial system. Among 30 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel two persons attacked him while he was being produced to the court, related to a murder case. This has now sparked up the question "Is there the required security present in a Court?"

Much delayed

Ultimately, Capt. Amrinder Singh, the person who brought Punjab virtually from the clutches of drugs menace, has to pay for his noble feat. It was rather a big mystery for us how a person of his stature and his family background and his long association with the Indian army was associated with someone like Novjot Singh Sidhu. I feel from now onwards Captain can breathe freely and sleep peacefully.

A clarion call for my brave Sikh brothers known for their valour and devotion to their nation to think and act decisively to thwart the evil designs of the enemies of the nation. The new CM as usually as per Congress customs was chosen not on merit. He was chosen based on his Dalit card even though he had a very suggestive record. Caste factor should not be the yardstick to be a CM but for Congress in particular it is always the policy. The founder of our constitution Lt. Bhimrao Ambedkar was so many times snubbed by the then PM Nehru which is an open book for all. It implies caste card or religious card doesn't when the matter revolves with Nehru dynasty. There are thousands of instances where the Dalits were subjected to racial discrimination in Congress-ruled states.

Road blockade: A curse

Road blockade of late has become the most commonly used way of registering protests against the authority by agitating crowds. In Assam, this method of agitation so far we are concerned was first initiated by the AASU, AJYCP, KMSS, and so-called apolitical bodies. While resorting to the ROAD BLOCKADE, the entire electronic as well as the print media at the behest of those apolitical bodies immediately arrive at the site before the arrival of law-enforcing authority to give undue extra publicity and coverage of the drama before the viewers due to reasons best known to all by this time. It has become a regular eyesore for us to see some over-aged men posing as students acting in this drama of road blockade. This is very condemnable as road blockades mostly affect the innocent commuters for hours together due to no fault of theirs. It is also very amusing to see those agitating middle-aged guys throwing tantrums before the camera as if they are the champions of the common people which they are not in any case.

It is high time we the commoners dealt with these professionals 'andolanjeevis' hard.

Cutting trees to build roads

Trees are being cut to build roads. What is the use of development where there is loss of nature? Annual tree harvest vs production on a worldwide scale shows that humans cut down approximately 15 billion trees a year and re-plant about 5 billion. That's a net loss of 10 billion trees every year. The loss of trees can cause climate change, landslides, desertification, flooding, increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. People should stop cutting down trees in the name of development because tree exhales oxygen and inhales CO?. If we run out of oxygen people will die and if there will be no tree the amount of CO? will increase in the atmosphere which can cause global warming. Roads can be built without cutting down trees. We shouldn't harm the environment, instead we should take care of the environment if we want to breathe.

Opening of educational institutions

During the past few months, the Assam Government has taken some tough steps to reduce the effect of Covid-19. Fortunately, they have succeeded in controlling Covid cases. It has been a rough time for us all, but one can say that the Assam government led us well during this time of panic. Now, the Assam government has made another bold move by opening colleges for final-year students. It is necessary to make sure that the students learn all the skills required before serving the country. However, conversely, the third wave of Covid-19 is said to be peaking in October. We still do not know what the third wave has in store for us. It may pass without doing much damage as most of us are vaccinated now, but at the same time, it may sweep us off our feet. As much as education is necessary, safety is more important. Hence, the government should look into the situation before taking such a step.
