India's single-day vaccination milestone

India on Tuesday administered more than 10 million doses of vaccine. This milestone can be considered as a breath of fresh air for India as it continues to intensify its vaccination drives in the hopes of reducing the impact of the third wave, predicted to hit the country around September-October of this year. We must keep in mind that access to vaccines is still scarce, especially the women and other poor.

Importance of plants

I would like to draw attention to the importance of Plants. Plants, living beings that cannot move from one place to another, are often left behind on their own, without any care. (Importance of medical plants highlighted, The Sentinel, 2nd September). It only emphasized medical plants. Regardless of being beneficial or not, each plant should be conserved and maintained. We should not wait for that fateful day when naturalists will classify plants as endangered or even extinct.

LPG price hike

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to bring forward the constant price hike of LPG. In the last two months, we have already witnessed an increase at the rate of Rs 50 per LPG cylinder, and as we step into September, the price has gone up again by Rs 25. It is a matter of concern for the economically weaker section. In the current scenario, many households are struggling to afford expensive cooking gas in their day-to-day life.

HC order on cow

Justice Shekhar Yadav of Allahabad High Court deserves all compliments for recommending in his order dated 01.09.2021 for the declaration of the cow as the national animal and the protection of cow as a fundamental right of the Hindus. He further observed that if the culture of the country and its faith get hurt, the country becomes weak.

The court order highlighted many other aspects. It observed that 'the right to life is above 'the right to kill', and 'the right to eat beef' can never be considered a 'fundamental right'. The cow is useful to us even when she is old and sick. Her dung and urine are very useful in agriculture and making medicines. No one should have the right to kill the cow worshipped as a mother. It is high time the Central Government legislated on lines of observations made by Justice Shekhar Yadav to declare cow as the national animal and ban cow slaughter.
