Looting spree

Previously, the present APDCL was known as the Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB). The change was, in fact, made to improve the efficiency of the then-ASEB by the then-government. But very sadly and alarmingly, the change was found to be a change from bad to worse. To increase revenue collection, APDCL introduced some reforms, like the introduction of smart prepaid meter replacing the earlier postpaid meters, but this reform has brought great resentment among consumers. Excessive and faulty billing processes have certainly become routine and regular affairs.

Merely showing APDCL’s success and popularity by the government in electronic and print media has, in the meantime, become a laughing stock for bona fide consumers. Along with the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, the looting spree of APDCL might prove very costly for the government. We, the electorates of the state, will have to opt for a lesser devil. We are caught between the devil and the deep sea.
