Letters to the Editor: Pakistan's help sought

Two days before the Golden Temple lynching on 18th December, the chief of Khalistani terrorist organization named Sikhs for Justice (SJF), Gurparwant Singh Pannu wrote to Pakistan's PM Imran Khan seeking his intervention in the Referendum and 'Fall of Delhi'. This letter was written on 16th December 2021, the 50th anniversary of the formation of Bangladesh after the 1971 war which led to Pakistan's humiliating defeat at the hand of the Indian Army led by Field Marshal Late Sam Manekshaw. Pannu had written to Imran Khan to support SJF to 'Free Punjab' and form 'Khalistan'. In the letter, the terrorist organisation SJF called itself a human rights advocacy group and the SJF is conducting its first-ever global non-governmental Khalistan Referendum on the question 'should Indian governed Punjab be an independent country?' and sought Pakistan's support in this regard. SJF's Pannu further went ahead and said 'fall of Dhaka' is the past, 'Fall of Delhi' is inevitable. Interestingly, Pannu asked for support from Pakistan, where the Sikhs, who are a minority in rogue Pakistan is subject to atrocities at the hands of the majority population. What is even more interesting is that when SFJ's chief released the proposed map of Khalistan, he conveniently skipped adding parts of Punjab that falls in Pakistan's territory, where many major shrines of the Sikhs religion are located.

The recent lynching of youth in Amritsar's revered Golden Temple for sacrilege may be a large plan of SJF and Imran Khan collaboration. Imran Khan's country is holding by a thread but to defer the attention of mostly poor and illiterate Pakistanis he is jumping into any plan or strategy to damage India. He knows the pulse of his citizens who are ready to sleep empty stomach and naked but enjoy anything that is India bashing. A thorough investigation into the recent ugly incident inside the Golden temple will reveal the truth. One more thing is that Punjab is heading for Assembly elections early next year.

Of Dalit Bhojanmata Sunita

Unable to understand that some 40 upper caste students in classes 6 to 8 of the Sukhidhang government inter-college (GIC) of the Champawat district in Uttarakhand refuse to eat food cooked by Dalit Bhojanmata Sunita Devi. Though on Devi's first day, all students consumed the midday meal together, it means the students were provoked by some bad elements. But not only due to their boycott, but even parents of those upper caste children also backed the boycott. That prompted the government to set up an inquiry, after RC Purohit, Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Champawat deputy education officer (DEO) Anshu Bisht visited the inter-college and called a meeting of the school management committee (SMC), parent-teacher association (PTA) and the village head to seal the fate of Dalit Bhojanmata Sunita Devi and she is fired for 'wrongful appointment' and sacked. As a result, parents are satisfied with the inquiry and upper-caste children have called off the boycott and are having midday meals as earlier. Will not this alienate lower caste people from society? People wonder why have not the inquiry committee asked the simple question to the aggrieved persons – do they ever eat samosa from the sweet shop and take samosa or sweets offered to God? If so, do they ask the sweet maker's cast? Whatsoever, it should not be better if the college authorities should appoint Sunita Devi again and set up an example.

Protection of stray animals from road accidents

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to bring to the attention of the authorities the death of stray dogs due to road accidents in our area along the national highway. In winters due to fog, there is low visibility due to which a lot of dogs are victimized by road accidents. Keeping this thing in mind there is a need for awareness among the public and ensuring safety of the stray animals. The authorities can ensure the safety of the animals by working with animal welfare organizations. This can be done by installing road signs, by tying radium (glow in the dark) collars on the stray dogs and stray cattle. This will help in reducing road accidents caused by stray animals and saving animal lives along with human lives.

Broad daylight looting

The traffic police have found a new way to harass the public by taking photographs of vehicles from the rear side. It happened to me on 17th December, around 9:15 pm in the Chandmari area. I parked my four-wheeler just behind the two police patrol vehicles. I went to a pharmacy to buy medicines. The parking period was around 10 minutes. Before getting out of my vehicle, I took permission from the on-duty traffic constable, and he obliged. At that period, most of the shops were closed or in the process of being closed. The vehicular movement was also thin. The next morning, I received an e-challan of Rs 2000 on my phone as a penalty for parking the vehicle in a no-parking zone.

Why did the police patrol team park their vehicles in a no-parking zone? They are also at fault if the law is equal to everyone. Secondly, it is the right of the accused to get a chance to defend when the violator is accessible. In my case, I was present on the spot. It has come to the notice of conscious citizens that nowadays, the police patrol teams are on the move to click pictures of parked cars even if the drivers of the vehicles had to stop the car to attend to some emergency. Latasil PS and Chandmari PS are always on the chance to do such broad daylight 'robbery'. I request CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to control the Police Department as it appears that they are on a looting spree.
