No escalation, please

Assam is passing through turbulent times. We all love our motherland and hence don’t want further escalation of any tension. CAB is creating a volatile environment as the people of the State are divided over the issue. A video clip has begun to circulate where an organisation named Bir Lachit Sena is seen warning the indigenous Bengali populace of dire consequences if CAB is passed in Parliament. One Shrinkhol Chaliha, a member of the organization, is shown in the clip spewing venom against Hindu Bengalis, alleging that the Bengali people are not objecting to CAB. That particular person has forgotten that India is for each and every Indian. Like a boy/girl from our State can work/settle down in any place in the country, similarly any genuine Indian citizen irrespective of language, culture and religion, can make our State his/her residence or workplace. If the Centre is pushing CAB, then how come all the Hindu Bengalis and other non-Assamese people are responsible? There is a forum within the democratic setup to protest against the decision. Bir Lachit Sena has gone overboard with their protest against CAB by urging Assamese people to target Bengali people. If the same thing happens to our people who are earning their livelihood in other parts of the country, can people like Shrinkhol Chaliha give assurance for their protection? Such people who thrive on donations are a liability to our State. Their sole goal is to come to the limelight and establish themselves as leaders.

A Bhumiputra,

Assam.
