Open debate on CAA

At a time when anti-CAA protests across the State were at its crescendo, the Assam Assembly was in its special session on January 13, 2020. State Finance and Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s speech on the floor of the Assembly has created some confusion amongst the lesser mortals like me regarding the CAA and issue of Bangladeshi infiltration. The minister presented his opinion with facts and figures and targeted the Congress and the AIUDF. The entire opposition was seen dumfounded. Now again an atmosphere of confusion might engulf the people’s mind with questions like whom to believe and whom not to. Through your esteemed daily, I appeal to all the local channels of the state to have an open debate between the BJP (Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Co.) and the Opposition (Congress, AIUDF and the AASU) over the CAA at the earliest. Sooner the better as the air of uncertainty engulfing the minds of people has to be dispelled for once and for all.
