Organic farming

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the annual plenary session of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Kolkota on June 11, 2020 said that like Sikkim, the entire Northeast can become a huge hub for organic farming. The present government's cluster-based approach to local produce will provide opportunities for all, as clusters associated with these will be developed in district , block in which they are born. Cluster for bamboo and organic products will also be made in the country. This will be a great opportunity for states like Assam for employment generation in the field of agriculture.

Sikkim is the first organic state in India and all its farmland is certified to be organic. In 2003 itself Chief Minister Pawan Chamling announced the vision for Sikkim to be an organic state. A few areas in Karbi Anglong, Dhemaji and Margherita districts the local people cultivate without use of chemicals , fertilizers etc. Organic products have great demand in the market. Through your daily I would like to draw the attention of the Agriculture and other related departments to work in the field of organic farming in an organized way.
