Pitiable work culture in Assam government offices

Time and again we raise the issue as to how the work culture in the State Government offices keeps declining. The timely reporting about the “Shrinking office days & waning work culture” (The Sentinel, December 2) prompts us to believe that the State government doesn’t have any control over the erring bureaucrats who are in charge of the respective offices. It transpires from your reports that the total number of official holidays in 2020 in the State government will be 112 (including Sundays and Saturdays) out of the 366 days, the year being a leap year. In our office days in a Central government undertaking (finance) we could not leave office before dusk and that in the month of February and March we have to work up to midnight. We had much expectation from the BJP-led State Government when it took the rein of administration from the Congress. But with the passage of time, things are worsening. We can take the instance of South Korea which is almost like the Indian State, Odisa. However, the work habit of the Koreans has no parallel. They love their country so much that even on holiday they work for the progress of the nation. The country is progressing by leaps and bounds.

We fail to understand as why to our government is slackening its grip on the erring employees who deserve punishment transfer for dereliction of duties.
