Seat Reservation in Medical Colleges

Seat Reservation in Medical Colleges

The recent decision of the State government to increase the reserved quota for admission into the MBBS course is quite disappointing for the aspiring candidates of unreserved category. It is shocking that such a decision was announced just ahead of the announcement of the result of the MBBS entrance examition. Initially, under chapter IV of our constitution, i.e. directive principles of State policy, the constitution makers included a provision of reservation policy for the people belonging to backward and scheduled classes for a period of 10 years. Subsequently, different ruling governments after coming to power have been maintaining the same reservation policy for every 10 years, for vote bank. However, I would like to request the Assam government not to increase the reservation quota for MBBS course beyond 50% so that candidates belonging to the unreserved category are not deprived from their aspiration for medical education after tremendous effort for preparation of MBBS entrance examition.
