Strengthening disaster management

As the year 2020 is witnessing an abundance of disasters, it is getting unmanageable to get into normalcy. Along with the global pandemic Assam is facing disasters one after another. Moreover, Assam is prone to natural disasters like flood, earthquake, landslides etc. Every year floods in Assam leave behind a trail of sufferings and misery. People lost their lives, livelihood, property and crops. It increases the sufferings and damage in each succeeding year. This year it would be really very difficult to provide rehabilitation and relief to the affected ones of flood. As the relief camps are transformed to quarantine centres people have to deal with COVID-19 as well along with floods.

Another instance from a very recent incident is the devastating fire that broke out at Baghjan oil well. The locals had to leave that place.

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to appeal to the authority concerned to strengthen the disaster management organizations in the State to tackle every eventuality.
