Suffering of Hapless Patients

Suffering of Hapless Patients

Just two days back, I had been to Assam Medical College Hospital to attend one of my ailing cousins. The journey in an autorickshaw was a horrible experience. The dilapidated condition of the road (Bordoloi Avenue) makes everyone visiting AMCH suffer for an indefinite period. It is a fact that the construction of footpath on both sides is going on, that apart, steps are being taken to widen the road. This is alright. But the way this construction is going on, we should term it at a snail’s pace. Of course, Assam is the land of ‘Lahe Lahe’. Now, our question is, what would be the plight of the hundreds of patients, particularly pregnant women, if this state of affairs continues for long? The construction works of the important roads should have been taken up long back and once it is taken up (though late), things should progress by leaps and bounds. During our stay in Dubai we could see how the busy thoroughfares are constructed. Dubai government always undertakes construction at night to minimize inconvenience of the commuters. Needless to add, the construction works are of high quality, but in Assam it leaves much to be desired due to corruption. Through you esteemed daily, I appeal to the PWD minister who also holds the Health portfolio to ensure construction of the roads along with the adjoining footpaths on a war-footing so that no patient suffers while visiting AMCH.

Ashok Bordoloi,
