Super Special Category State

Super Special Category State

Madhu Agrawal,

DELHI.

Newspaper reports suggest that there is really good news for all the states in the Northeast. Recently, DONER Minister Jitendra Sing declared that now on each of the eight States of the north-eastern would received 100 per cent grant for development works. Prior to this, there was a provision of 90:10 grants, wherein ninety per cent grant would be from the Centre and the rest, that is the expenditure of ten per cent would be borne by the State governments. But the experience postulates that the States were not able to bear the expenditure of even the ten per cent costs. Now that the eight states of the Northeast enjoy the special status of being ‘Super Special Category States’, it is now for the states to decide how the fund so received from the Centre would be utilized in a befitting manner. Let us talk of our state. One should feel pity on the plight of the dilapidated wooden bridges in far-flung rural areas. As we view the news in the electronic media we are surprised to notice such bridges near Dispur. Likewise, there is a good number of such bridges even near the urban areas as well scattered all over the states. The dilapidated condition of the roads prompt us to visualize the face of our PWD Minister whose speech always sounds complacent.
