Speaking at the birth centery celebrations of Rani Gaidinliu in New Delhi, Prime Minister rendra Modi reiterated his confidence that the peace accord signed with the NSCM(I-M) will help the entire Northeast and usher in peace in the region. However, in a democracy, one cannot go on referring to a peace accord signed with just one militant outfit and talk about how it is going to contribute to the peace of the entire region when no one knows anything about the terms of the accord. Everyone who has watched the lengthy peace process is convinced that the NSCN(I-M) is unlikely to sign any accord without some of its demands being conceded by the Centre. And one of the principal demands is the annexation of ga-inhabited territory in the neighbouring States with the proposed Greater galim. It is unlikely that the conceding of this demand can bring peace to the region since neighbouring States are unwilling to part with any territory to greater galim. Now that there is also talk about “shared sovereignty”, it is imperative that the peace accord with galand be made public to allay all fears of the neighbouring States.
