The Heart-rending Accident Near Thowra-Dol

The gory sight of the accident near Thowra-Dol is really heart-rending, in which nine passengers have been killed and more than 20 injured. From the statement of the injured passengers it emerges that the driver of the Traveller accelerated the speed and in a bid to overtake a Magic Vehicle, he speeded up all the more and 'Kanakjyoti' the Dibrugarh-bound bus coming from Golaghat collided head on with the Traveller coming from the opposite direction. It is crystal clear that the driver of the Traveller who too got killed in the accident was fully to be blamed. Generally, it is experienced that these drivers always are in a hurry to reach their Thowra-Dol destination overtaking whosoever goes ahead of them. Sometimes some passengers are seen pleading the driver to show down his speed. Loss of lives, particularly from those who lose a member or two from the family becomes more pathetic all the more. One such case we must mention is the death of Subrata Bora, a promising, brilliant student of Milan Nagar, Dibrugarh who after completing her M.Sc (Agriculture) with flying colours was all set to get ready for a Ph.D and was proceeding to Jorhat in the ill-fated Traveller. Our language falls short to express our condolence to her bereaved family.

Through your esteemed daily we appeal to all the superintendents of police to bridle the unruly drivers so that number of accidents can be minimized with the help of the new Traffic-Act.
