The result of Bihar assembly election is a clear manifestation of the fact that certain vital issues were ignored by the BJP. The party before the election was fully confident and complacent that it would win the election. From the result, it is crystal clear that by antagonizing the entire populace of Muslims and backward classes, BJP incurred displeasure among the masses. Astute politicians of the likes of Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav fully encashed it, inflicting a humiliating defeat to the BJP. Furthermore, the unpalatable comments of the likes of VK Singh simply fanned the flames. There were other leaders of the NDA who embarrassed the party by their unsavoury comments. Returning of toil awards by some intellectuals also cannot be brushed aside as for the ‘growing intolerance,’ people were also sceptical about whether the commitments made by the Prime Minister in as many as 40 rallies addressed by him will at all see the light of day. On earlier occasions too, there were commitments galore, but some of these still remain unfulfilled. In Assam, during his rallies for Lok Sabha elections, Modi made a good number of commitments. He asked all the Bangladeshi foreign tiols to get ready to leave Assam with bag and baggage.
During the last floods, when people were devastated, everyone was thinking Modi will announce a huge package. But far from giving substantial relief, the Prime Minister did not feel it worth to visit Assam to meet the people at the time of distress. What people want is action, not high sounding speeches.
