CBI special court judge Jagdish Singh has handed two sentences of 10 year rigorous imprisonment in each of the rapes of two female disciples to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim that date back to 2002.

It exhibits the rule of law. It is a big slap on self-styled godmen, who are known for their flamboyant lifestyle and non-taxable uccounted wealth. Kudos to the intrepid judge!

Aadhaar for farm loans

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has said that farmers need to mandatorily link Aadhaar numbers to their banks accounts to avail of subsidized farm loan benefits. The RBI further said that farmers can avail of short-term crop loans of up to Rs 3 lakh at subsidized interest rate of 7% that could go down to 4% on prompt repayment. The RBI has also announced an interest subvention of 3% for the first year on loans that have been restructured following tural calamities. To ensure hassle-free benefits to farmers under the interest subvention scheme, the banks are advised to make Aadhaar linkage mandatory for availing of short-team crop loans in 2017-18.

We believe, Aadhaar is really effective and helps the farmers to take crop loans at subsidized rate of interest. Moreover, the rate of interest will go down if loans are repaid promptly.
