The World Wetlands Day was celebrated on February 2 at Nalinipathar Beel in Japari Pathar near Kaziranga National Park. Theme this year was ‘Wetlands and Biodiversity’. School students of the nearby area of Khukanibor Gaon and Japaripathar participated in the World Wetlands Day celebration in which they were apprised of the importance of wetlands and ecosystem. The high-profile officials of Kaziranga National Park attended in the celebration. Wetlands serve as an important source of any form of water which may be groundwater that is drawn through other methods for consumption. Wetlands make the survival of living organisms, including aquatic ones, healthy. This helps the maintenance of a balanced ecosystem. The government and other organizations, NGOs should take an awareness programme on the issue of Wetlands and the ecosystem.
