Cancel CBSE/ICSE Offline Board Exams: Supreme Court to Hear Students' Plea Today

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India has taken the major decision of agreeing to hear the plea that suggests cancellation of physical board exams for classes 10 and 12 this year and to choose an internal assessment mode for students.

After continuous demands from various boards and students, the Supreme Court will now finally hear the plea for the cancellation of 2022 class 10 and 12 Board examinations.

The court is scheduled to hear the petition today i.e. on Wednesday 23 February after demands from CBSE, CISCE, NIOS, Maharashtra Boards, Rajasthan Boards and students from other boards.

The said petition has been tabled before the court and it will be heard by the bench of justice headed by AM Khanwilkar at 02:00 pm.

Advocate Prashant Padmanabhan will be representing the petitioners and advocate Rupesh Kumar will represent CBSE in SC today.

According to the official notification released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the exams of term 1 CBSE will begin from 26 April 2022 but the exam timetable is not yet shared.

Meanwhile, some of the boards have already started the board exams for class 10 and 12 students and some are scheduled to take place in the months of March and April.

It is likely that the Supreme Court will provide for an alternative method rather than cancelling the exams completely as it has already begun for some.

Various groups of students have raised their voices against conducting offline board exams after a huge gap in physical classes of students amid the COVID-19 pandemic that resulted in extreme loss of the learning process.

Students demanded an internal assessment process for evaluation instead of physical examinations as classes were done online so according to the students, offline examinations are not fair.

Class 10 and 12 students from at least 15 Indian states have filed a petition asking cancellation of board exams. All students are now waiting for the verdict by the court which will be soon announced.
