Cotton University to Admit COVID Orphans Under UG & PG Courses

GUWAHATI: The Cotton University announced that they would admit students who lost their parents due to COVID-19 to Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) courses.

In a notice issued by the CU academic registrar, SK Dutta it stated that these students would be admitted under a special provision.

It is to be mentioned here that, the admission process at the leading state university has almost been over in October.

Meanhwile, candidates under this criterion are asked to send an application with testimonials of the qualifying examination to the Director Students' welfare, Cotton University on or before 15 November, 2021.

The application must be accompanied by a medical certificate mentioning Covid-19 infection as the cause of death of one of the parents of the candidate.

The application with scanned copies of documents may also be sent by email to ec.ug@cottonuniversity.ac.in (for UG) and ec.pg@cottonuniversity.ac.in (for PG).

Earlier in June 2021, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Chief Minister Sishu Seva Scheme where he handed over a cheque of Rs 3,500, a copy of the fixed deposit certificate and a laptop to each of the 11 beneficiaries who lost both of their parents due to the COVID-19.

Under the scheme, an amount of Rs 7,81,200 would be parked in the bank as a fixed deposit in the name of each of the beneficiaries. Monthly financial assistance of Rs 3,500 to be realized from the fixed deposit will be given to each of the beneficiaries till they attain 24 years of age. On completion of 24 years of age, the principal amount parked as a fixed deposit against each beneficiary would be credited to his or her bank account.
