Aishwarya Rai on Being Body Shamed: Referring Post Pregnancy Weight Gain and How She Handled it

After giving birth to her daughter Aaradhya in November 2011, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had put on some weight - post-pregnancy cons. During an interview, Aishwarya was asked about her weight gain after pregnancy and she replied, “It’s not just been post motherhood.. because you are looking at it from that aspect of the body frame changing. I am talking about the reason I was able to handle it because I have faced judgement for so long.”

Aishwarya further added that it makes her smile how in a lot of articles they have written the words like ‘Oh! She has the fairy tale life’. Yes, she has a lot of blessings and she is very grateful for that. When she was asked about her body shaming that's ever hurt her, she replied, “Obviously, if you are going to be the person who has pointed out as the thumbs down, you are like ‘Why?’”

In a 2017 interview, Abhishek Bachchan had addressed the body-shaming of Aishwarya, stating, “When she became a mother, her career took a backseat. Today, she does everything for Aaradhya. She is a Supermom. Soon after Aaradhya was born, the media went at her about her weight gain. Nasty things were written, which really upset me”. He further added, “If that upset her, she said nothing.” “Water off a duck’s back,” said Aishwarya when she saw me perturbed.”

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be next seen in her next upcoming project, “Fanney Khan” sharing screen with Anil Kapoor after a gap of 17 years. The movie is essentially about a father helping his daughter to fulfil her dream of becoming a singer. Aishwarya play as a fabulous singer in the movie, who is kidnapped by Anil Kapoor for ransom. But in the trailer the plot also touches upon the subject of her body shaming as a hint. Body shaming is pathetic. Every individual is beautiful in his or her own way.
