Bollywood celebrities together with Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Anupam Kher remembered Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar who died at his residence on Sunday evening. The 63-year-old former defence minister was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer last year and had been undergoing treatment in India and the US.

Amitabh Bachchan took to social media and posted a few emotional tweets about the death of the former defence minister. "Manohar Parrikar CM of Goa, passes away .. a gentle, soft-spoken simple minded person .. respected .. fought his illness with dignity and great spirit .. had on a few occasions spent some time with him .. a soft smile always adorned his face .. sad with the news," Amitabh Bachchan wrote.

Amitabh also wrote on his blog, ".. life is strange .. its vagaries cannot be understood... nor can its eccentricities... A death on one end and a birth Anniversary on the other.. Manohar Parrikar, the mild soft spoken Chief Minister of Goa, passes .. and dear friend, now a relation through Shweta, brings in his birth Anniversary .. Shashi Kapoor … .. there are senseless brutal disturbing killings at one end .. and death anniversaries and births, in another .. closer home and personal .. Life is truly strange .. but it moves on .. some get off the treadmill, some jump on it and straddle its speed... "

Akshay Kumar, too, expressed his grief and tweeted, "Extremely sad at hearing about the demise of Sh. Manohar Parrikar Ji. I feel blessed to have had the fortune of meeting and knowing a sincere and good soul as he was. Heartfelt condolences to his family."

Actor Randeep Hooda also expressed his grief. "Man of few words, simple, the epitome of integrity & efficiency, straight shooter, defence minister, 3-time chief minister of Goa, away from the trappings of a person in power, IITian, well mannered, a true servant of the nation, an example to follow for one and all... Salute #ManoharParrikar," the actor wrote.

Sanjay Dutt also tweeted, "Sad to hear about the loss of one of our finest leaders, #ManoharParrikar ji. May he rest in peace. My prayers are with the grieving family & friends".

Riteish Deshmukh paid his last respects to Parrikar. "Deeply saddened by the passing away of Shri #ManoharParrikar ji ... one of the tallest leaders of India. Condolences to the family & loved ones."

Veteran actor Anupam Kher posted a photo with Parrikar and wrote, "Deeply deeply saddened to know about the untimely demise of Shri #ManoharParrikar ji. He was one of the most real, dignified, intelligent, warm, down-to-earth & honest people I had met. He had a great quality of inspiring people so effortlessly. Will miss him. Om Shanti".
