New Delhi: As India is struggling with the second wave of the COVID pandemic, celebrities have been trying to help people deal with the crisis. Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has contributed Rs. 2 Crore for the COVID-care centre at Rakab Ganj Gurdwara in Delhi.
Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee President Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that it is scheduled to open on Monday.
Sirsa, who is also the national spokesperson for Akali Dal party, said, "Sikhs are Legendary, Salute To Their Service."
He said that these were the words of Amitabh Bachchan when he contributed the amount to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur COVID Care Facility.
Popularly known as Big B, the actor also made sure that oxygen concentrators from abroad reached the COVID care centre.
"While Delhi was grappling for Oxygen, Amitabh Ji called me almost daily to enquire about the progress of this facility," Sirsa added.
As per the sources, the facility at Rakab Ganj Gurdwara opens on Monday and will have 300 beds, oxygen concentrators, doctors, paramedics, and ambulances. All the services will be provided to patients free of cost.
On Friday, Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon has also stepped forward to arrange oxygen cylinders for COVID-19 patients in Delhi. The actress shared photos of the first shipment on her social media.
Apart from Big B and Tandon, several Bollywood celebrities including Rohit Shetty, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonu Sood, Salman Khan, Akshay Khanna, and wife Twinkle Khanna, Sushmita Sen, Shilpa Shetty, Sunil Shetty, Alia Bhatt, Tapsee Pannu, and Bhumi Pedneker too have come forward to help people in this hour of crisis. They have been arranging for oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, COVID medicines, and feeding people. Actress Sunny Leone has joined hands with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to feed meals to 10,000 migrant workers in Delhi.
