MUMBAI: In a piece of sad news for the Bollywood industry and film lovers, Shiv Subramaniam who was featured in the romantic comedy '2 States' passed away at the age of 62 on Sunday 10 April in Mumbai.

The award-winning screenplay writer took his last breath during the night hours on Sunday but the cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.

The actor's funeral has been scheduled for Monday 11 April and his cremation will be done at the Mokshdham Hindu Shamshanboom in Amboli of Mumbai as informed by closed sources.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta who is a friend of Subramaniam took to his Twitter handle to inform fans about the sudden demise of the noted actor and writer.

Mehta shared a note on his Instagram handle expressing his sadness over the tragic news and also shared other important updates regarding Subramaniam's funeral.

Other filmmakers including Beena Sarwar and Ashokh Pandit also expressed their grief over the death of Subramaniam and paid heartfelt condolences to the family members.

Notably, the writer died just 2 weeks after the death of his only child named Jahaan who passed away before his 16th birthday due to a brain tumor.

It may be mentioned that Shiv Subramaniam has made a huge contribution to the Hindi film industry throughout his career by writing screenplays for many hit movies and also acting in several others.

He has won numerous accolades for his work including Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay, Filmfare Award for Best Story, and ITA Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role.

Subramaniam started his career in the film industry with the film titled 'Parinda' in 1989 where he was featured in a supporting role.

He wrote screenplays for other movies such as Teen Patti (2010), 1924: A Love Story (1994), Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003), Arjun Pandit (1999) and Chameli (2003).

Apart from his screenplay writings, Subramaniam has also made a remarkable career in acting in movies like '2 States' by Abhishek Verman where he played the role of Alia's father, Nail Polish, Ungli and Stanley Ka Dabba among others

The late actor-writer was last seen on Netflix 'Meenakshi Sundareshwar', a 2021 romantic comedy directed by Vivek Soni and produced by Karan Johar in collaboration with Apoorva Mehta.
