Mamata Banerjee Bans 'The Kerala Story' in West Bengal to 'Maintain Peace'

MUMBAI: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday that the newly released 'The Kerala Story' will be banned in the state.

“West Bengal govt has decided to ban the movie 'The Kerala Story'. This is to avoid any incident of hatred and violence, and to maintain peace in the state” said West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

She further said that “What is "The Kashmir Files"? it is to humiliate one section. What is "The Kerala Story? It is a distorted story”

Many theatres across Tamil Nadu have also cancelled screenings of the contentious film beginning on Sunday, citing law and order concerns and a lack of audience response.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh has declared that the film will be tax-free in the state, while Uttar Pradesh minister Brajesh Pathak has stated that the state will not resist any request to grant comparable status.

Kerala Story is a film about the women who went missing from Kerala and later joined ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) after being compelled to convert to Islam.

In addition, the video emphasizes 'Love Jihad' propaganda in which Muslim men lure Hindu girls into converting to Islam and abandoning their families.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made the announcement at the state secretariat on Monday. The statement occurred just minutes after Mamata Banerjee claimed that "the BJP was funding a Bengal-themed film along the lines of Kashmir Files."

The film stars Adah Sharma. The Kerala Story is about alleged religious indoctrination in Kerala and how extremist Islamic clerics are targeting Hindu and Christian, women. According to the film, these women were converted to Islam and then transferred to nations such as Afghanistan, Yemen, and Syria "to fight for the cause of Islam."

The Kerala Story, directed by Sudipto Sen, earned 16 crores at the domestic box office on its third day of release. On Sunday, the film increased by 42.60%. Since its premiere on May 5, The Kerala Story has grossed nearly 35 million dollars.
