Indian Cricket-Themed Series 'Inside Edge' Bags Emmy Nomination

Indian-American web television Inside Edge, a series that is made upon a fictional T20 cricket team. The team Mumbai Mavericks plays in the Powerplay League. This power play is based on the Indian Premier League.

This is Amazon Prime Video's first Indian origin series. For the first time, it premiered on Amazon Video on July 10, 2017.

The series features Richa Chada, Tanuj Virwani, Vivek Oberoi and Angad Bedi in leading roles. And the series has been received positively by critics and audience and also being nominated for Best Drama series at 46th International Emmy Awards. Recently the series has been renewed for a second season as well.

The series gives an insight about the dirty politics behind the game which becomes a power play in the true sense and it lays down in a landscape of conflicting interests. In it there is only selfishness that acts as a virtue, followed by sex, money, and power which happens to be mere ways for an end.

The web series has acknowledged critical compliments for its performance as well as the storyline. In series with the excellent performance of Siddhant Chaturvedi, Tanuj Virvani, Richa Chada and Sayani Gupta have been highly appreciated by the viewers.

While India Today called the series "perfectly cast and technically first-rate" and The Indian Express acclaimed the presentation of all the actors. The Indian Express says that the web-series packs interesting punch shouldered by some honest performances and at the same time the quality of the show hasn't been compromised because of the fact that the web series is just a smaller medium in comparison to films. On the other hand, Firstpost too positively gave their feedback for the series saying that the characters are so flawlessly integrated into the storyline that it does not feel like a make-believe world.

Well, but the good news is that this Indian cricket-themed series 'Inside Edge', that stars Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chadha, and Angad Bedi, has been designated in the Drama category of the 46th International Emmy Awards.

This series of Amazon will be going confronting each other with Netflix's Spanish-language drama 'La Casa de Papel' ('Money Heist'), Brazil-produced 'One Against All', and 'Urban Myths'.

It may be mentioned that 'Inside Edge' is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's banner Excel Media and Entertainment Private Limited.

"Proud to share that our first association with Amazon Studios, INSIDE EDGE gets nominated at the International Emmy Awards," Sidhwani tweeted.

While Vivek Oberoi stated that he is glad for his nomination of the web series.

"This is incredible!! Humbled and ecstatic at the same time. Kudos to team #InsideEdge. Thank you so much, everyone, for the love, we will definitely blow your mind away in #Season2," Oberoi posted on Twitter.

The series was created by Karan Anshuman. And the first season was quite popular among the audience where the plot revolves around the ups and downs of a cricket team, with gluttony, aspiration, and corruption at its core.

The award function will take place in New York on November 19.
