'International Friendship Day' celebrated worldwide on July 30

Guwahati, July 30: The most-awaited day to celebrate bondings and relationships between friends, Friendship day, will be celebrated on 2nd August in India this year.

The United Nations (UN) has declared July 30 as the day to celebrate friendships officially. Friendship day was first proposed in the country Paraguay in 1958 as International Friendship Day and is celebrated across various countries.

However, it is known to have originated from Hallmark cards, by Joyce, in 1930. In India, it is usually celebrated on the first Sunday of the month of August.

On the occasion of Friendship Day, people send greetings and exchange gifts with their friends all across the country.
