Guwahati: Four friends, four crazies, feature in different clips from the upcoming film 'Yaara' poster released a few days back. This time the Northeast also has enough to rejoice as one of the four friends is a familiar face, Kenny D Basumatary, popular for his directorial work in 'Local Kung Fu.

"When I went for the audition for Yaara in Mumbai, I never hoped that I would turn out to be a significant part of the movie," says Kenny, adding, "and once selected, it didn't require me to think twice as I was going to be working with the national award-winning director Tigmanshu Dhulia. Like in every group of friends, these four also have that one responsible, caring member played by me."

Terming his experience of working with the director as "wonderful", Kenny says, "Tigmanshu sir knows exactly what he wants. So the shots were very clear. I was equally happy and excited for having got an opportunity to work with actors like Amit Sadh and Vijay Varma."

Although he is more popular for his directorial work 'Local Kung Fu', he has tried his hands in both acting and directing. Explaining the dual challenge to perform as an actor and director, he says as a director, one has more control of the process, but an actor's role is more on "enacting" and bringing out what is expected by the director. So both demand different things and both are equally enjoyable, Kenny adds.

Recalling some of the standout moments from the sets of 'Yaara', Kenny said, "Our trip to Nepal was the best, and I still remember those lovely locations. The shooting also took place in some of the earthquake-hit places of the region.

Currently, Kenny says, he is working on the post-production of 'Local Uptaat.; His next project is a romantic comedy web series to be released on an upcoming platform that goes by the name 'Reeldrama.'

With Yaara's digital release expected on July 30 on Zee5, the actor hopes that a lot of people watch the movie. "Also, once they watch it, they will realize that it was a movie worth releasing and watching on theatres," added Kenny, expressing a slight disappointment that the film had to settle for a digital release in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, as theaters are closed.

'Yaara' is a remake of the 2011 French crime drama Gang Story. The film traces the friendship of four criminals, their rise and fall in the backdrop of their operations in the India-Nepal border. It also stars Vidyut Jammwal, Shruthi Hassan, and Sanjay Mishra in pivotal roles. The film is produced by Sunil Kheterpal for Azure Entertainment.
