Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham or Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea is an epic genre film with great emotional elements. Marakkar is a multilingual film as it will be available to watch in languages of Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Tamil.

The 3-hour long film Marakkar is based on the story of the legendary king of Kozhikode (today's Kerala), Kunjali Marakkar IV, and depicts his epic fight against the Portuguese invasion. Director Priyadarshan takes a little information from the history and makes his king of Kozhikode, Kunjali played by Mohanlal.

Beginning with romance the traditional epic drama ends with great tragedy mixing the contents with melodrama and action scenes. The dialogues delivered in the film along with lengthy sequences make it a lot more dramatic. The film proves to be a great visual entertainment only because of the brilliant cinematography by Tirru and production design by Sabu Cyril adding the visual effects by Siddharth Priyadarshan.

Keerthy Suresh in the film appears as a royal girl named Archa who is seen in romance with Kunjali's one of the Chinese loyalists named Chinali played by Jay J Jakkrit. Bollywood star Suniel Shetty also plays a major role in the film. Mohanlal doesn't fail to meet the expectations of his fans as he has provided immense action along with emotions at the core.
