One Word for Soorma: Heart Warming: Says Taran Adarsh

Soorma – The Greatest Comeback story, which got released today, has proven itself to be much more than just a sports film about hockey. It’s a story of courage, struggle (with self and imposed apprehensions) and love for the game. Written and directed by Shaad Ali, Soorma is a biopic of field hockey player, Sandeep Singh. Sandeep Singh is a 2010 Arjuna Awardee. He had won the “Man of the Tournament” Award in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, in 2009; and was a leaded goal scorer in the 2012 London Olympics’ qualifying tournament.

However, as the general notion goes, real success never lays out an easy path to reach it. Sandeep Singh also had to struggle a lot to reach that position and to be able to play hockey again after paralysis. Soorma tells the story of Sandeep Singh (role played by Diljit Dosanjh), who was accidentally gunshot in 2006. He was severely injured. He was on wheelchair for two years, due to paralysis. But he stood strong and fought against all the fringes of tides to follow his passion. Finally, he gets back on his feet and made a miraculous comeback.

Diljit Dosanjh, a multi-talented star, has been garnering loads of appreciation for Soorma. Master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar appreciated the movie a lot. He said, “You know we all followed hockey, but something like this had happened to Sandeep I was not aware of.”

The movie has many well-known stars from the industry, including the duo from “Pink’s” team: Tapsee Pannu (as Harpreet) and Angad Bedi (as Bikramjeet Singh). Pink’s actress, Tapsee had done a rigorous training for this movie. Recently wedded groom, Angad Bedi was also seen in Tiger Zinda Hai. Angad’s performance count next to Diljit’s in Soorma. Impressed with Angad’s performance, Tendulkar said, “He’s done a brilliant job. I have seen Angad grow up as a kid and his Dad is a dear friend of mine. The film is extremely inspiring, not just for sportsmen but generally for everyone. It’s a terrific story and it clearly portraits the ‘Never say die attitude’ and standing back on your feet again to deliver.”

Taran Adarsh has given a 3.5 star rating to Soorma.
