The latest Tamil mystery thriller 'Valimai' directed by H. Vinoth starring Ajith Kumar released on Thursday 24 February has recorded the biggest opening of all time in Tamil Nadu.

On its first day of release, the film shows huge collections in the box office with Rupees 36 crore just in Tamil Nadu making it 2nd biggest opener in the state after-action drama Sarkar in 2018.

According to reports the film was released in at least 650 theatres across Tamil Nadu in different show timings. Valimai has set such a record despite getting released amid the pandemic and on a non-holiday.

Ajith was last seen in the 2019 film 'Nerkonda Paarvai' and after 2 long years, the actor is back with all his power to impress the audience with his action.

On Thursday the Valimai is released on big screens across the globe and within such a short period of time, it is receiving many positive responses along with big profits.

The film has successfully earned 1.82 cores only in Chennai and 76 crores from all over the country on its opening day. In its release in Tamil Nadu, the film has notably defeated the grossing by Rajnikanth's 'Annatthe' and Vijay starrer 'Master.'

Valimai shows the action-packed thriller with a good narrative about a police officer and a dreaded smuggler, the villain of the story.

The story revolves around the cop and the villain who provides crime jobs to the youth by employing them in day-light robbery and smuggling drugs to different regions.

Apart from Ajith, the film also cast Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi and Kartikeya Gummakonda in other important roles.

The film experienced postponement as it was earlier scheduled to be made available to watch on theatres on 13 January but delayed due to a surge in cases of COVID-19.

Valimai is produced by Boney Kapoor and the music in the film is added by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Ghibran composed the background score in the film making it more engaging to watch.
