Guwahati: Based on a secret input, Gorchuk Police on Tuesday launched an operation and arrested seven hardcore dacoits from various places of Guwahati city and Baksa District.
As per police, report, the officer in charge, Gorchuk Police Station, Inspector Dhirendra Kalita said that during the operation we have managed to apprehend the kingpin of the gang along with six notorious dacoits.
“We have arrested all of them one by one including the kingpin from various places of Guwahati and one was arrested from Baksa District. In Guwahati, we launched our operation in Lalongaon, Khotikipara, Haukuchi, Khepelijol and Shimla village under Baksa District. A case has been registered in connection to the matter. The gang was also involved in a robbery case in Guwahati’s Ahomgaon on March 16,” said Inspector Kalita.
Inspector Kalita also informed that during the operation, Gorchuk Police had recovered daggers, knives, master keys, mobile phones, vehicle, gold jewelleries from their possession.
The arrested dacoits have been identified as Ganesh Basumatary (Baksa), Ganesh Lama (Lalunggaon), Shankar Karmakar (Nagaon), Javed Khan (Chaygaon), Rontu Barman (Barpeta), Mahanta Brahma (Baksa) and Ankur Rabha (Udalguri). The arrested dacoits are aged between 20 to 25 years old.
Earlier, the same gang of dacoits had barged into the residence of former SSB Jawan Kasung Suleman in Guwahati at the wee hours on last Saturday and looted cash, gold jewellery at gunpoint. The armed masked men tactfully entered into the house in Ahomgaon, threatened the family with daggers and weapons, tied them up with rope and managed to escape with cash, gold jewellery and a newly purchased Hyundai i10 car.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered against all the seven arrested dacoits at Gorchuk Police Station (Case No: 160/19 under section 395 of the Indian Penal Code).
