10-day notice to vacate Government quarters !

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 20: 25 families of police personnel residing in the government quarters of the police department at Khanapara (Khanapara Police Colony) have been asked to vacate the quarters within 10 days. A letter to this effect was issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) on September 15. The reason cited by the DCP is that the location is ‘low lying’ and ‘damp’ and hence unfit for ‘human inhabitation’. The letter also speaks of proposed ‘development’ of the plot.

Meanwhile, the residents of the colony have stated that the 10-day time allotted by the authority to vacate the quarters is extremely short, adding that within such a time alternative accommodation cannot located in a city like Guwahati. They are of the view that at least three-month time should have been given by the authority to vacate the quarters.
