GUWAHATI: As many as 1,000 staff nurses under NHM (National Health Mission) and 215 ICU (intensive care unit) technicians under the Department of Health, Assam were given appointment on Monday.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed the appointment letters at a programme at GMCH (Gauhati Medical College & Hospital) Auditorium.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said, "I'm confident that the newly appointed nurses and ICU technicians will help strengthen the healthcare system in the State. The process of ICU installation is underway at various hospitals in the State.

"A section of people have been out in a misinformation campaign regarding COVID-19. Even some people have stopped wearing face mask because of such a false campaign. The situation in the State is escalating fast, and the death toll is nearing 500. I'm not sure as to what will be the corona toll in the next three months."
