102, 108 employees’ strike

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Sept 11: Despite extension of solidarity and participation from various organizations of the State and leaders including KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi, the indefinite strike launched by the ‘All Assam 108 Mrityunjoy Employees Association’ is yet to receive any responds from the State government. Fanning the flame, even the GVK (EMRI) authority is also turning down their grievances. As such, the strike has entered 8th day on Wednesday without a result.

Talking to The Sentinel on Wednesday, a city resident said, “We do not understand why the State government and the GVK (EMRI) authorities are reluctant to consider the agitating employees’ grievances. The agitating employees’ have also their relatives. They too have families. What is the point of provoking a huge mass of employees on the street for such a long period?”

Another resident said, “The underprivileged people, who do not have their own vehicles are mostly dependent on ambulances. They cannot afford to hire a vehicle. Neither have they ever afforded to step into a private hospital. Hence, the present strike and the government’s apathy is a big blow to the poor people.” The agitating employees have started their indefinite strike to protest non-compliance with labour laws by the company, non-payment of annual increment dues from 2015- 16 and extended hours of work.
